Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent Christian prayer designed to prepare you to experience God’s presence within. It is a practice of interior silence, surrender, and letting go of everyday thoughts to rest in the divine.

WHAT TO EXPECT

When we gather, I’ll begin with a brief five-minute introduction to the practice of Centering Prayer. We will then spend 20 minutes in silent prayer together, followed by a final five minutes for anyone who would like to share a short reflection on the experience.

GUIDELINES FOR PRACTICE

  1. Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within.

  2. Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s presence and action within.

  3. When engaged with your thoughts, return ever-so-gently to the sacred word.

  4. At the end of the prayer period, remain in silence with eyes closed for a couple of minutes.

It is recommended to practice Centering Prayer 20 minutes, twice each day.
